Chronic pelvic pain can be defined as:-
‘Intermittent or constant pain in the lower abdomen or pelvis of at least 6 months in duration, not occurring exclusively with menstruation or intercourse and not associated with pregnancy.’
It is a common symptom and not a diagnosis. Women presenting with chronic pelvic pain require full, comprehensive history taking by their GP and possibly a gynaecologist, examination and appropriate investigations aimed at finding the cause of the pain. In some cases, an underlying cause is found which can be treated and the pain will resolve or be managed adequately.
At Intimate You, we offer BTL EMSELLA™ therapy which utilizes High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic technology (HIFEM) to cause deep pelvic floor muscles stimulation and restoration of the neuromuscular control. Key effectiveness is based on focused electromagnetic energy, in-depth penetration and stimulation of the entire pelvic floor area. The device is basically a chair on which a patient sits for 28 minute sessions, fully clothed. The treatment is not painful
The role of the treatment is for pain management, not cure of an underlying cause.
This is a recent and evolving use of the BTL Emsella and at Intimate You we are pioneering providers in the UK and leaders in research in this application. Whilst we do have gynaecological provision in house, the clinic is not set up to fully investigate pelvic pain. Therefore, all patients presenting with this will need a comprehensive referral letter from their usual clinician to ensure the very best, appropriate care.
